Toronto Gallery Openings: Amy Bowles/Gary Evans, MMMMM… Gendai Kitchen’s honey event and more

Amy Bowles and Gary Evans: West Country, at Paul Petro Contemporary Art, November 18 to December 23, reception 7-10 pm November 18.


Semi-abstract landscape paintings by Evans and ceramics by Bowles are inspired by the area of southwestern Britain from which both artists hail, with its long history of Druidic magic and Arthurian legends. The gallery also shows highlights from 19 years of its Christmas Spice holiday shows. (This year’s C-Spice opens December 2.)

Diane Borsato: All Our Flourishing Is Mutual Ed Pien: Trafficking, at the Drake Hotel, 8 pm November 21.

Art/food curators MMMMM… Gendai Kitchen and the Drake’s 86’d Monday-night tasting series present an event where you can sample honey from the hives of local chefs and beekeepers, including artist Borsato and her father, while Pien launches his edition of handmade seed-collecting pouches.

John Kissick: Burning Of The Houses Of Cool ManYeah Landon Mackenzie: Mirror (Square) And Blue Web, at Katzman Contemporary, November 19 to January 7, reception 2-6 pm November 19.

Kissick’s abstract paintings are inspired by J.M.W. Turner’s Burning Of The Houses Of Parliament, while Landon’s paintings of multiple coloured squares play with the idea of mirror neurons in the brain. Sample beer from Kissick’s microbrewery at the reception.
