Elon Musk has named Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter.
In an announcement by Musk on Friday, he passed his position as the highest-ranked person at the social media company to the former NBC executive and advertising maven.
Musk said he will transition to being executive chair and CTO, overseeing product, software and system operations.
Yaccarino previously worked at NBCUniversal for nearly 12 years. Her LinkedIn account details that she previously served as NBC’s chair for advertising and client partnerships and as president of cable entertainment and digital advertising sales.
Since 2011, her advertising team has generated more than $100 billion in ad sales, according to NBC.
Before working at NBC, she worked at global entertainment company Turner for nearly 20 years.
Yaccarino is also currently the Executive Chair of the World Economic Forum.
Musk says Yaccarino “will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology,” as he looks forward to Twitter’s future and plans to transform the platform into “X, the everything app.”
On Saturday, Yaccarino took to Twitter to thank Musk for top job.
“I’ve long been inspired by your vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together!” Yaccarino tweeted.
She also made note of the loads of new followers she’s gained since the announcement, letting Twitter users know she is dedicated to the beloved app.
In the following tweet, Yaccrino says, “I see I have some new followers… I’m not as prolific as elon musk (yet!), but I’m just as committed to the future of this platform.Your feedback is VITAL to that future. I’m here for all of it. Let’s keep the conversation going and build Twitter 2.0 together!”
One user believes Yaccarino’s background might hinder the use of free speech on the social app.
“She represents advertisers, and her natural inclination is to limit speech, and pander to those who push woke ideology on the world. You will have to watch her like a hawk,” the tweet reads.
Another user says Yaccarino deserves a fair shot to run the platform.
“Finally, PLEASE stop attacking her until you witness what she does. Actions speak much louder than anything else,” the tweet reads.
Meanwhile, another user tweeted their full support forYaccarino in hopes that she’ll tackle controversial free speech on the platform.
“I fully support Linda Yaccarino cleansing Twitter of all the free speech loving conservatives. They must be silenced so that trans voices can be amplified,” the tweet reads.
