Live In Chicago (Sanctuary/EMI) Rating: NNNN Rating: NNNN

Just before the band launches into an upbeat rendition of Don’t Laugh (I Love You) from GodWeenSatan, Dean Ween says, “I hope we make a good DVD.” The good news is that they have. It’s their recording of two nights of a three-date Chicago stand during their late-2003 tour. In fact, with its high-quality multi-angled footage and incredibly clear sound mix, this is indispensable for all but the most casual Ween fan. There’s material here from all but the country album, as well as two new songs, so it’s an item that will cause Ween’s glue-huffing hippie fan base to get off their filthy couches, get an I.T. job and buy it. There aren’t a lot of extras, but included is a CD with 17 of the DVD’s songs on it, just in case you don’t feel like looking at Deaner and Gener’s beatific mugs while listening to the tunes.

Check out Ween: Live In Chicago at a special screening to benefit the Daily Bread Food Bank this Sunday (May 23) at the 360.
