SUMMARY:Ranbir Sidhu No Limits: Public Opening
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the opening of Ranbir Sidhu: No Limits with an exciting night of live music. Hamilton-based music collective ShaaMaa will perform live in Walker Court beginning at 6pm. This all-ages event is free for AGO Members\, Annual Passholders\, and with General Admission. Cash bar onsite. \nShaaMaa is an instrumental music collective and sonic exploration\, rooted in profound\, improvisational dialogue. \nFeaturing Willy MacAulay (guitar)\, Cesar Cordoba (keys\, synths\, accordion)\, and Gurpreet Chana (tabla\, percussion\, electronics)\, their disparate musical practices naturally bled into an emergent\, wholly original soundscape from the creative crucible of Hamilton’s Cotton Factory after an introduction by the group’s recordist\, Glen Marshall. Together\, they are guided by the belief that music itself is the only composer. \nShaaMaa crafts evolving soundscapes that defy genre limits\, inviting the listener into an intimate sonic space of communal creation.  Their recent live album releases; ShaaMaa Live at Grand River Arts Festival (March 2025) and Radiance (November 2025) are further testament to this and their trust in music to guide where it wants to take them and you\, the listener!

SUMMARY:AV Live: Longing and Belonging
DESCRIPTION:Longing and Belonging\, this month’s installment of the AV Live Performance series at the Art Gallery of Ontario\, unfolds as an inquiry into the fragile terrain of human connection in the digital age. Immersed in the glow of devices and the rhythms of algorithmic attention\, the work questions whether our technologies of communication generate intimacy or dissolve it into data — and whether we are also using technology as a form of escapism\, a way to hide rather than be open and vulnerable. As Byung-Chul Han writes in The Agony of Eros\, “Where everything turns into the same\, there is no longer any relation — only a smooth\, narcissistic reflection of the self.” Through a sensory interplay of sound and image\, artists Felipe Requena and Hagop Ohannessian (visuals) collaborate with Dennis Neves\, Demain Oritz\, and Felipe (audio) to compose a live audiovisual environment that drifts between desire and disconnection — a poetic meditation on what it means to long\, to belong\, and to be seen in a networked world.

DESCRIPTION:Join artist\, craftivist\, author\, and creator of Tiny Pricks Project Diana Weymar  in conversation with Joyce Wieland: Heart On curators Georgiana Uhlyarik and Anne Grace.  Through stitching quotes on repurposed textiles\,  Weymar’s work invites the viewer to think\, consider current political discourse\, and take creative action.  In collaborative conversation with the curators\, they will make connections to Joyce Weiland’s artwork and feminist practices through materiality and content.  Weymar will have a few of her works on display to look at during the talk. \nDuring this conversation\, makers are encouraged to bring their stitching projects to work on while listening.  If bringing a project\, you are asked to bring projects that only use synthetic materials\, no larger than 9 x 12 inches\, and bring them in a sealed plastic bag.  We kindly ask that the work goes back in the bag after the talk.  The reason for asking for synthetic materials in a sealed bag is to help with conservation efforts as bugs like to travel and hide in natural materials.  Bugs and pests in an art museum are not good for the artwork.

SUMMARY:Celebrating Rauschenberg's Centennial with Merce Cunningham Trust
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Robert Rauschenberg’s 100th birthday requires a performance event as singular and imaginative as the artist himself. With vital funding from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation\, The Art Gallery of Ontario\, alongside the Merce Cunningham Trust\, will mark this milestone by restaging excerpts from several of the two artists’ collaborative dance pieces. This program\, specially created for the AGO\, includes Changeling (1957)\, Antic Meet (1958)\, Story (1963)\, and XOVER (2007). Rauschenberg’s Combine painting titled Story (1964) forms part of the AGO’s permanent collection and is the only surviving artifact from the scenography Rauschenberg created onstage during the performance of the same name by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. It is currently on display in the Moments in Modernism exhibition at the AGO through April 26\, 2026 \nPerformers: Christian Allen\, Sienna Blaw\, Eve Jacobs\, Justin Lynch\, Lindsey Jones\, with live musical accompaniment by Adam Tendler.
