Pianist Michael Kim performs Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand\, a haunting and virtuosic work composed for a war-injured pianist\, while Gershwin’s An American in Paris brings brassy swagger and rhythmic vitality to the streets of the French capital.

SUMMARY:SOARING STRINGS / Dvorak’s Love Letter
DESCRIPTION:Music Director Nurhan Arman leads the orchestra in a program drenched in melody. One of Mendelssohn’s brilliant string symphonies opens the concert\, followed by the return of a spectacular virtuoso who thrilled Sinfonia Toronto listeners in 2021. Grandson of the legendary Soviet violinist Viktor Pikayzen\, violinist Igor Pikayzen completed degrees at Yale and Juilliard\, won numerous international competitions and has performed with major orchestras around the world.  He joins Sinfonia Toronto for  Shostakovch’s gripping Sonata for Violin with String Orchestra and Timpani. After intermission the orchestra will play one of the most beloved works of the Romantic repertoire\, the famous Serenade Dvorak wrote with great joy during the ecstatic early years of his marriage.

DESCRIPTION:Come ready to dance\, connect\, enjoy food and drinks\, and be swept away by the mesmerizing vocals of Neda Mohamadpour and the vibrant energy each artist brings to the stage! \nA special quartet created for this performance blends Persian folk and jazz with raw emotion and spontaneity. It includes Neda Mohamadpour (vocals)\, Chris Pruden (piano)\, Caleb Klager (bass) and Mack Longpre (drums). Their sound is shaped by microtonal textures\, expressive melodic storytelling\, rhythmic fluidity\, and open-ended exploration. Rooted in a spirit of curiosity and cross-cultural dialogue\, the quartet deconstructs traditional musical frameworks. \nDastgâmachine is an electrifying electronic experimentation with Persian motifs. Dastgâmachine (Mahmood Schricker\, Caleb Klager\, and Jason Rule) embrace a legible and unique form of psychedelia\, incorporating the sounds and production techniques of dub\, techno\, and musique concrète into the Dastgâ system of arranging classical Persian art music. The three come from disparate scenes and sound worlds: Mahmood (on electric setar) from a traditional composition background\, with years of performance and soundtrack experience; Caleb (on electronics) having gone from studying jazz composition to creating full-throttle techno alongside performing in jazz ensembles and live at MUTEK; and Jason (on turntables) having experience with computer music ensembles and over 15 years of radio and club DJing under their belt in multiple countries. \nPresented by TO Live in partnership with Link Music Lab and the City of Toronto Music Office.
