From east to west, ‘Canada’s Ultimate Challenge’ travels to hidden gems across the country

Canada’s Ultimate Challenge season two is in full swing with 20 players competing for the grand prize trip to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games!

Hosted by media mogul Brandon Gonez, the reality series on CBC Gem sees these players sectioned into five teams to compete in spectacular challenges that will keep them and the audience on their toes. The series aired on Apr. 28, with the last episode scheduled on June 2.

The challenges are set in numerous locations across Canada, with the competitors visiting various cities and landmarks from east to west.

EP. 1 – ST, JOHN’S, NEWFOUNDLAND

The season kicked off in St. John’s, Newfoundland known for its small-town charm and its beautiful coastlines. In this episode, the teams go to Signal Hill and the Quidi Vidi Wharf Party. Signal Hill is a popular landmark recognized for its hiking trains, breathtaking views and the Cabot tower. Meanwhile, Quidi Vidi Wharf Party has scenic routes, fishing areas and idyllic cottages by the water.

EP. 2 – LES ÎLES DE LA MADELEINE, QUEBEC

The second episode is set in this archipelago, a series of 12 islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Teams will head to Plage Du Corfu, a majestic beach for sunset walks and an ideal spot for windsurfers and kitesurfers and La Grave, a small ski-resort that offers incredible mountain views.

EP. 3 –  OTTAWA, ONTARIO

The third episode takes place at the Rideau Canal in the nation’s capital, Ottawa, Ontario. Ottawa has a diverse culinary scene, a variety of outdoor activities and a rich political and historical culture. The 202 kilometre-long canal was built in the 19th century and connects the Cataraqui River to Kingston Harbour on Lake Ontario. 

EP. 4 – HAMILTON, ONTARIO

The fourth episode will have teams in Hamilton, Ontario to board the HMCS Haida and 1939 DC-3 Dakota. HMCS Haida is dubbed as Canada’s “most fightingest ship,” and is the last of the twenty-seven tribal class destroyers in the world. The DC-3 Dakota is a helicopter that was used during the Second World War to assist paratroops, drop supplies, evacuate the wounded, and glider towing.

EP. 5 – CANMORE, ALBERTA

Competitors will tackle the daunting Ha-ling Peak and navigate the Canoe Meadows in Canmore, Alberta. The 7.4-kilometre trail up the mountain is considered a steep and challenging climb. The Canoe Meadows is a campground situated on the Kananaskis River where people enjoy white water rafting and river surfing.

EP. 6 – REVELSTOKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA

Players will travel to the west coast for a challenge on top of Mount Revelstoke, high above a ski hill. Here is where adrenaline seekers take on the world-famous ski jump and embark on treacherous trails. The next obstacle is at Lake Revelstoke, a hidden gem for swimming, water sports and camping. Here, players will face off in a canoe battle.

EP. 7 – COMOX VALLEY, BRITISH COLUMBIA

For the season finale, players will compete in three challenges starting at Mount Washington on the eastern edge of the Vancouver Island Ranges of British Columbia. During the winter, the Mount Washington Alpine Resort is perfect for skiing, while the summer offers trails for mountain bikers and scenic chair lifts.

Comox Valley is home to biking and hiking trails, beaches, golfing and so many other outdoor activities. Here is where players will delve deep into the valley’s vast forests full of 100-foot Douglas fir trees and attempt a tree climb. 

The last challenge will go down at the Campbell River where players will compete in a 200-metre obstacle course putting everything they learned to the test. The river is one of the top destinations in the province as the options for outdoor adventures are endless, such as saltwater fishing, cold water diving, walks on Elk Falls Suspension Bridge and more.
