Friday, March 10:

The Historic Silver Dollar Room – 65 Year Commemoration

Join the Historic Silver Dollar Room for the first time in 5 years to honour the iconic venue’s 65th anniversary. The party will feature ​​live music inspired by the 50s and 60s.

Kapwani Kiwanga Remediation Exhibition

The Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting the first major survey exhibition in Canada of Canadian-French artist Kapwani Kiwanga.  Kiwanga creates installation, sculpture, and performance to explore the relationships between historical narratives, systems of power, and the use of material within these contexts.

The Wavelength Winter Festival is hosting its first in-person event in three years. The festival champions the resilience of grassroots artists and puts the spotlight on Indigenous creativity.

Fairview Performance

After its New York City debut, Canadian Stage and Obsidian Theatre are hosting the first Canadian production of Jackie Sibblies Drury’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Fairview. In the show, the Frasier household is preparing for Grandma’s birthday party, but not everything is as it seems.

Lumière: The Art of Light

The Art of Light festival opens on Friday and will be held at Trillium Park for the first time this year. The free outdoor light exhibition allows visitors to explore the park and experience art developed by Ontario artists.

Saturday, March 11:

Commemorative Gathering featuring The Burn

To mark the third anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Toronto is hosting a commemorative ceremony at Nathan Phillips Square featuring The Burn, an interactive installation, in memory of lives lost. 

“Experience a shared exhalation through fire, water and immersive waves of sounds, as the vessels’ wooden spheres, along with fresh ones created onsite, come together to ignite for a 24-hour burn from March 11 to 12,” the city says on its website.

Newcomer Women Conference

The free Newcomer Women conference will provide an interactive and informative day of presentations and keynote speakers, highlighting the struggles and systemic barriers faced by newcomer and refugee women.

Say Her Name: International Women’s Day Concert

Solidaridad Tango and a star-studded line-up of women performers are presenting the “Say Her Name” International Women’s Day Concert to fundraise for the Center for Human Rights in Iran. The event will feature a live music concert, dance performances, a silent auction, and a donation drive.

Shimmy Saturday

Aanch restaurant is hosting its first belly dancer and Bollywood music night of the season. The night will be filled with live dancers, handcrafted cocktails, the chef’s specially curated menu and complimentary desserts.

2023 Toronto St Patrick’s Day Race in Support of Achilles Canada

Get your “Green On” and celebrate St. Patricks Day with a run downtown in support of Achilles Canada. The run will start at Steam Whistle Brewing and finish with an after-party there as well. All abilities, runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate.

The Asian Food Battle 2023

Three Headed Dragon Inc. is hosting a friendly cross-cultural street food competition between Japanese and Taiwanese street foods. Participants will have six battle food samples and choose the winning dishes in each category.
