The Shadow of the Wind
Immerse yourself in a story full of secrets, love, and obsession. The Shadow of the Wind is a literary mystery set in postwar Barcelona, where a young boy discovers a book and realizes it may not have been forgotten, but intentionally destroyed. Discover Barcelona’s secrets filled with murder, madness and doomed love through Heather’s pick. The book usually costs $27.99 for a paperback, but is now free under the one-day giveaway.

The Wager
Shipwreck, survival, mutiny, and murder. Check out The Wager, a $28 paperback book for free under Heather’s promo. Plunge into a true story where a British ship crashes off the coast of South America, leaving its crew stranded and starving. Some of them manage to escape and make it back home, but their stories don’t match. Read the book to discover if they were truly heroes or mutineers.

Persepolis
If you’re into comic books but want to read a powerful personal story, check out Persepolis. The book is Marjane Satrapi’s deeply personal graphic memoir, chronicling her childhood during the Iranian Revolution. The black-and-white comic strip paints a picture of her daily life in Iran between home life and public life in both personal and political expression. Read the $24.95 paperback book for free under this limited-time giveaway.

Educated
Read a story on resilience and education despite an unconventional upbringing through Heather’s Pick, Educated. Follow Tara Westover’s story on unconventional education, learning how to stew herbs into medicine, scavenge the family scrap yard and help her family prepare for the apocalypse, and only stepping foot in a classroom at age 17. After that, she still entered university and won an esteemed fellowship from Cambridge University. Check out the $23.99 paperback book for free for a limited time.

Beartown
Check out the number one New York Times bestselling author’s book, Beartown, for free instead of its usual $24.99 paperback price. The book follows the hopes that bring a small community together, the secrets that tear it apart, and what it takes to stand up when everyone else stays quiet. It’s also an HBO limited series, out right now.

Indigo’s Chief Booklover, Founder, and CEO, Heather Reisman, returns with this initiative to increase access to books for Canadians.
“In a world where algorithms are actively being designed to diminish our focus and ability to disconnect, reading time can slip away,” Heather Reisman said in a press release. “Which is why this year’s giveaway feels especially meaningful – it is our invitation, to anyone who has drifted, to come back to the page.”
“The idea that spurred our giveaway list this year was a simple one: beloved books that grab you from the very first page,” she added.
