A gourmet Toronto restaurant is shutting down for good following a long journey of trials and tribulations.
Ration Beverley, located at 335 Queen St. W., bravely launched its restaurant during a lockdown in 2021. Since then, the fermentation and preservation eatery started three separate pop-up take out concepts, a bottle shop and a cafe. This eventually flourished to a standalone kitchen on a rooftop terrace offering fine dining.
Later that year in September, the restaurant received a five-day notice from the government saying it could open indoors that following weekend. Ration quickly got to work and opened its tasting menu restaurant that customers have come to love today, a Michelin Guide-recognized establishment.
“Every day was seemingly better than the last until six weeks into our journey came the announcement of Omicron. We then lost 14 Christmas parties, had a shortened New Year’s Eve and then faced another nine-week lockdown,” the owners said in an Instagram post.
The owners say its team did their very best to navigate and pivot through the many twists and turns of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“And we are so very proud of our incredible team for their resilience, dedication and all that we accomplished together at Ration, including a Michelin Guide recommendation in 2022 & 2023,” they said.
In addition to having a Michelin Guide recommendation, the restaurant is highly known for offering a zero-waste experience through its fermentation, foraging and curing.
Ration Beverley is set to close by the end of this week. Customers have Friday and Saturday to enjoy the restaurant.
