Toronto is home to some of the most diverse cuisines known to man, and one restaurant serving up authentic and culturally-inspired dishes is no exception.

Baro, located on King Street West, is not just revered for its wildly beautiful restored three-storey building known for its nightlife but also for its amazing Latin cuisine that is reimagined with a modern feel.

The restaurant is currently introducing its “Dine Around Latin America” dinner program where foodies can explore a culinary journey designed to transport guests to Latin countries from the comfort of their home.

The idea comes from Executive Chef Brent Maxwell who hopes to offer city-goers a signature dish inspired by one South American country every month.

This month we got to experience the beautiful country of Venezuela.

One of the signature dishes for June included is the “Asado Negro,” made with a 24-hour braised beef, pickled fennel, and cassava crumble accompanied with Arepas.

Additionally, the menu features two delicious salads, including the “Brasa” which is the feature dish highlighting Peru in July. It incorporates octopus, spicy greens, charred corn, fava, heirloom tomatoes, onions, crispy quinoa, queso fresco, cilantro, basil, lucuma rocoto and vinaigrette.

The second salad is called “Ceviche De Atún Y Mango,” which has yellowfin tuna, mango, limo chili leche de tigre, avocado, cucumber, red onions, chulpes, rice cracker pearls and cilantro.

What stole the show for me was the “Charred Jalapeno Hummus,” which features grilled flatbread, chili garlic oil and cilantro, the “Pescado Del Dia” which was a branzino with salsa and the “Wagyu Pichana,” a top sirloin with a chimichurri rojo sauce.

You also can’t leave without trying the grilled corn that was anything but basic thanks to the amazing chili sauce topped with scallions and paprika.

The program is scheduled to last all of 2023.

So, if you want to experience Latin America without having to hop on a plane, you can plan your visit by booking a table here and visiting the restaurant’s website.
