
As Family Day approaches on Monday, Feb. 17, Torontonians are gearing up for a day of relaxation and celebration with loved ones.
While many will take the opportunity to unwind, it’s important to note that businesses and services across the region will be operating on modified holiday hours. From retail stores to public transit, residents will need to plan ahead to make the most of the long weekend.
Here’s a breakdown of what will be open and closed in Toronto on Feb. 17.
Transit
GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule. For more information on holiday schedules, click here.
TTC will operate on a Sunday schedule, with routes starting at 6 a.m. For more details, see here.
Grocery and alcohol
All LCBO and Beer stores will be closed.
Most major grocery chains will be closed. However, there are a few places that will remain open on the holiday, including:
- Loblaws, 60 Carlton St., from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Metro, 444 Yonge St., from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Farm Boy, 777 Bay St., 9 a.m. to 7 p.m
- Whole Foods, 87 Avenue Rd., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Select Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall locations are open on Family Day. Check your local area for store hours.
Government services
Most municipal offices will be closed on Family Day but emergency services won’t be affected.
All banks will be closed.
Passport services and Service Canada offices will be closed.
Canada Post offices will continue as normal with regular mail collection and delivery. However, UPS will not run deliveries on Family Day.
Toronto Public Library branches will be closed for the holiday.
Shopping malls
A variety of shopping malls in the city will remain open on Family Day, but there will be a few closures. Sherway Gardens, Dufferin Mall, Scarborough Town Centre, Fairview Mall, the Shops at Don Mills and Yorkdale Mall will all be closed on Feb. 17.
The following malls will be open:
- CF Markville – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- CF Toronto Eaton Centre – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Pacific Mall – 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Tourism
No need to stay at home on Family Day, as plenty of select tourist attractions will be open to the public.
The CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, and the Toronto Zoo will remain open.
The Royal Ontario Museum, Aga Khan Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario will also be open.
Movie theatres will also be open with varying hours and showtimes.
Community centres
Most community recreation centres and ice rinks will remain open Monday, including Nathan Phillips Square. Call ahead or visit the city’s website for a list of their holiday hours.
