The Canadian Opera Company is proud to co-present the Canadian premiere of 10 Days in a Madhouse, with Tapestry Opera and Luminato Festival in association with TO Live. The gripping psychological opera, by composer Rene Orth with libretto by award-winning playwright Hannah Moscovitch, is based on journalist Nellie Bly’s trailblazing 1887 exposé of patient abuse in New York’s notorious Blackwell’s Asylum, where women were silenced, sanity was questioned, and power decided who was believed. The opera’s world premiere at Opera Philadelphia was critically acclaimed, with The New York Times praising, “Opera needs works like 10 Days.”
