“Ancient History” brings together images and sculptures that span Roman amphitheatres, glaciation, Aztec temples, family heirlooms, natural disasters and dream-built monuments.
Humans leave traces – deliberately or accidentally – across geological and cultural time. The work includes relics and artefacts, from a concrete-sealed jewellery box that becomes a future family burden to a heart repaired and wrapped in deerskin. “Ancient History” is about reverence, forgetting and life’s obsessions that take on tremendous importance, only to lose value as time passes. The artists consider endurance, change and the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world. Gallery hours: Wednesday to Sunday 12-5 PM.
