Black History Unburied Community Event Aug 26, 2025

Graveyard with trees and headstones, sunlight filtering through branches, promoting Black history unburied and remembrance in Toronto.

Join us at the Heritage Toronto tent to explore the lives and stories of notable Black community members who made a mark on this city and are buried at the Toronto Necropolis. We will be stationed at the Cabbagetown Farmer’s Market under the Heritage Toronto tent between 3pm – 7pm with historical interpretation about the Black histories and legacies that rest in one of the oldest cemeteries in Toronto.

A free 1-hour walking tour will be offered at:

4:00pm and 5:30pm.

This tour will be led by Heritage Toronto’s Programs Coordinator Selma Elkhazin.

Start and End Point of the tour: Cabbagetown Farmers Market in Riverdale Park (191 Winchester Street)

Length of Tour: Approximately 60 minutes

Distance and Terrain: The tour is approximately 1 kilometer in distance and takes place mostly on unpaved paths in city parks.
