Spring at the COC kicks off with the return of Bluebeard’s Castle/Erwartung, a bold double-bill of one-act psychological thrillers from renowned director Robert Lepage. In Bartók’s Symbolist fairytale Bluebeard’s Castle, the title character’s newest wife must unveil his gruesome secrets behind seven locked doors. This is complemented by Schoenberg’s Erwartung, where a woman’s search for her missing lover starts a descent into madness. COC Music Director Johannes Debus guides renowned returning artists bass-baritone Christian Van Horn and soprano Karen Cargill through Bluebeard’s Castle, and soprano Anna Gabler, making her COC debut, in Erwartung.
