The Canadian Opera Company Theatre (227 Front Street East) hosts the world premiere of Come Closer by composer Ryan Trew and librettist, soprano, and COC Company-in-Residence Opera 5 Co-Founder Rachel Krehm. This moving meditation on grief is based on Krehm’s personal experience of losing her sister, Elizabeth, following the character of Big Sister (Krehm) through a series of waking dreams inspired by Little Sister’s (soprano Jacqueline Woodley) poetry as she tries to understand who her sister was and how to move forward after profound loss. Conductor Evan Mitchell leads members of the COC Orchestra through Trews’ lyrical score.
