Join us for a festive, hands-on Adult Art Workshop celebrating Lunar New Year traditions through the creation of Fai Chun – traditional Chinese decorative couplets symbolizing good fortune, prosperity, and new beginnings.
The workshop begins with a short introduction to the history and cultural significance of Lunar New Year, Fai Chun, and traditional greetings. Participants will then be guided through a live design demonstration before creating their own meaningful Fai Chun artworks to take home.
This workshop combines cultural learning, creativity, and mindful making, offering a welcoming space to explore tradition through contemporary art materials.
What You’ll Learn & Create
• Learn about the history and symbolism of Lunar New Year and Fai Chun traditions
• Explore the meaning behind common Chinese New Year greetings and symbols
• Create your own Horse-themed Fai Chun couplet using calligraphy-inspired brushwork
• Design a Square Fai Chun featuring the “福” (fortune) character and New Year symbolism
• Experiment with mixed media techniques using acrylic paint, ink, and layered paper
• Learn about traditional reading direction and symbolic placement
