For the past twenty years, Peter Kuplowsky has championed genre and underground cinema as both a curator and independent producer. In 2026, he founded Low Sky Productions, a Toronto-based, filmmaker-driven development company dedicated to discovering, fostering and advancing original film projects into relationships with seasoned production companies. In tandem with its development stream, Low Sky is also committed to championing gonzo media, be they episodic, feature, narrative or non-fiction, through year-round film screenings and festivals.
To mark the unveiling of its inaugural slate of productions, from June 26th to June 28th, Low Sky will be hosting a micro-festival of screenings across key venues in Toronto that defined Peter Kuplowsky’s career as a film curator, and showcasing films that inspired his career as a producer. A summer vacation turns into a feverish nightmare as a family find themselves the intended main course for a clandestine cabal of shape-shifting vegetarian goblins with designs to transform people into vegetables! It’s a wackadoo premise born from the mind of veteran Italian genre filmmakers Claudio Fragasso, and executed with sublimely hilarious dissonance as the production deployed a non-English speaking crew to wrangle its non-Italian speaking cast of endearingly hapless American actors. Coronated as the “BEST WORST MOVIE” by the critically acclaimed and award winning documentary of the same name, Troll 2 stands within a pantheon of “cult cinema” that defies all traditional preconceived notions of form, aesthetics and taste, and yet somehow cultivates one of the most entertaining and baffling movie-going experiences of all time.
