What’s the key to creating great art? When a playwright is asked, absurdity ensues.
Created by Dublin-based company Brokentalkers with performer Adrienne Truscott, the award-winning Masterclass turns the art world on its head in a sharp, hilarious satire that takes aim at masculinity, sexism, and power in the cultural canon.
Framed as a live artist interview, the show introduces a swaggering, self-proclaimed male genius playwright (Truscott) opposite a fawning, significant host (Feidlim Cannon). As the conversation unfolds, bravado, ego, and artistic myth-making collide — exposing the stories we’ve been told about “greatness,” and who has historically been allowed to claim it.
Blending razor-sharp comedy with theatrical mischief, Masterclass shifts from playful parody to something more revealing, laying bare the structures of privilege and power that shape the art we celebrate. Funny, biting, and unexpectedly disarming. It asks who gets to be called a genius — and at whose expense.
