The COC’s fall season continues with the return of Robert Carsen’s boldly minimalist production of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. In this operatic treatment of the haunting Greek myth, the divinely gifted Orpheus begs the gods for the return of his recently deceased wife, Euridice. He descends into the underworld to bring her back on the condition that he not look at her or explain why on their journey back. Iestyn Davies makes his COC debut as Orfeo, with Canadian soprano Anna-Sophie Neher returning to sing the role of Euridice. Conductor Bernard Labadie (Così fan tutte) returns to the COC to lead them through score, which bridges the gap between the Baroque and Classical eras.
