The COC closes out its 2026/2027 mainstage season with the return of Donizetti’s comic melodrama The Elixir of Love. The story sees shy and working class Nemorino desperate to win the hand of wealthy Adina, even going so far as to buy a so-called “elixir of love” (really, wine) from the smooth-talking salesman Dr. Dulcamara. Conductor Lorenzo Passerini returns following the COC’s 2024’s landmark production of Medea to lead tenor Duke Kim in his COC debut as Nemorino, alongside COC Ensemble Studio graduate soprano Emily Rocha as Adina and COC favourite baritone Luca Pisaroni as Dr. Dulcamara. A crowd-pleaser for a reason, Donizetti’s bubbly score features one of opera’s most famous arias, “Una furtiva lagrima.”
