The Sattalites are now known as one of the longest-running and most successful reggae groups in Canada. Catch them live in an intimate setting at Hugh’s Room Live on Fri May 15, 2026. Expect a vibrant mix of original hits and classic Jamaican favourites from a band whose roots trace back to Toronto’s Little Jamaica in the early ’80s—evolving from a community music school into a JUNO Award-winning reggae institution with international touring acclaim. With DJ Jay NuFunk spinning all vinyl classic reggae, the night delivers a deep, authentic throwback vibe from start to finish.
Founded in Toronto in 1981, The Sattalites grew out of a “pay-what-you-can” music school in Little Jamaica led by Jo Jo Bennett and Fergus Hambleton. Known for blending deep reggae roots with strong pop harmonies, they quickly built a reputation for energetic live shows. Their 1985 debut album featuring “Wild” propelled them to international touring and earned them JUNO Awards in 1990 and 1993, cementing their legacy in Canadian reggae history.
