Within each of us lies a voice that is full of imagination and creativity. At the 2024 Festival, Voices Within, artists from around the world to share their artistry with us, and let us experience the world as they see it through their musical voices and instruments. From the strong voices of masters resonating with wisdom and experience to the bright voices of emerging artists ringing with hope and innovation, we will celebrate the multitude of voices within our community.
The Festival showcases several outstanding artists of our time including Les Arts Florissants’ riveting production of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, conducted by William Christie and Paul Agnew, winners of the 2023 Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank Competition David Baik and Gregory Lewis in baroque splendours, and the celebrated Pacifica Quartet, Trio Zimbalist, and New Orford String Quartet perform in Walter Hall. After their long-awaited return to Toronto, Canadian Brass takes the Koerner Hall stage, and Constantinople with their guests from indigenous communities celebrate our intimate relationship with nature. The influential mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly performs with pianist Joseph Middleton, and rising-star Innu soprano Elisabeth St-Gelais with her collaborator, Louise Pelletier. The unstoppable Kerson Leong performs Beethoven under the baton of Simon Rivard, backed by the TSM Festival Orchestra. TSM delivers exciting contemporary works and world premieres, by such composers as Ian Cusson, Iman Habibi, Errollyn Wallen, Lera Auerbach, Jocelyn Morlock, Jessie Montgomery, Elizabeth Raum, Kaija Saariaho, and many more; as well as the special inaugural concert of Schmaltz & Pepper; a spell binding Yiddish music ensemble playing klezmer inspired by jazz, Roma, classical and European folk music, featuring Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s principal clarinetist Eric Abramovitz, and Grammy-nominated Drew Jurecka.
