Ariane Morin, saxophonist/bandleader of Sumak Brass Band, is presenting a monthly residency concert at the Southern Cross Room at the Tranzac (Toronto) from October 2025 to March 2026.
Each 2nd Thursday of the month, Montrealer saxophonist Ariane Morin aims to create a space for new collaborations in Balkan, Greek, and Turkish music with musicians from the local Toronto diaspora scene. Each month features a different formation or focus—whether a dance-inspired Balkan brass night, an intimate café-aman style Greek set, and other possibilities—all showcasing the saxophone’s expressive capacity across varied contexts within Balkan and modal traditions.
This concert series continues with a special evening of Turkish music, featuring a trio with Ariane Morin on saxophone, joined by the talented Ferhan Dogmusoz on oud and virtuosa Naghmeh Farahmand on percussion. For this collaboration, they’ll delve into Turkish repertoire ranging from zeybek and çiftetelli to classical and folk tunes.
