WAAC Members in Focus: part of the city-wide CONTACT Photography

Apr 30, 2026 @ 11:00 am - May 23, 2026 @ 05:00 pm

WAAC Members in Focus showcases the creativity and range of photographic work being produced by members of the Women’s Art Association of Canada (WAAC).

From intimate encounters in the natural world to layered urban narratives, the exhibition brings together diverse perspectives in a thoughtful and engaging celebration of image-making.

Presented as part of the CONTACT Photography Festival, WAAC Members in Focus features 29 WAAC artists, and visitors are invited to experience the many ways photographers observe, frame, and interpret the world around them. Spanning moments of quiet observation to striking visual contrasts, from interplay between presence and passage, moving between the immediacy of the natural world and the constructed rhythms of urban environments.

Viewers are invited to consider how meaning is shaped through attention, contrast, and perspective.

These works reflect a shared commitment to storytelling through the lens.

Featured Works Include:

Leopardess Drinking, Chobe Botswana by Jonathan Ward (top left): A close, unguarded encounter with wildlife captures a leopard at the water’s edge: its focused gaze and poised stillness revealing both vulnerability and instinct within the natural world.

Ships Passing in the Night by Judith Davidson-Palmer (top right): A stark black-and-white urban passageway frames two figures moving toward and away from one another, emphasizing isolation, rhythm, and the quiet choreography of city life.

Everything We Thought, We Always Knew by Sabrina Leeder (bottom left): A late-night streetscape illuminated by neon signage captures the atmosphere of a familiar neighbourhood landmark, where light, colour, and shadow evoke a sense of place and memory.

Building at King & Roncesvalles by Ulla Djelweh (bottom right): An urban facade layered with fire escapes, shadows, and painted surfaces transforms everyday architecture into a dynamic composition of pattern, texture, and overlooked detail.
