Afro-tastic

Big sister Caribana may get all the coverage, but this weekend’s Afrofest (Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12), noon to 10:30 pm, in Queen’s Park is just as delicious.

In the fest’s food court, NOW chow favourite Lalibela (869 Bloor West, at Roxton, 416-535-6615) is barbecuing lamb à la Ethiopia and dishing up vegetarian combos on no-mess injera, while One Love Vegetarian (854 Bathurst, at London, 416-535-5683) promises its classic Caribbean coconut ‘n’ pumpkin soup and spicy grilled corn.

Fans of long-gone Amadou on the Danforth can reacquaint themselves with the resto’s lemony Senegalese-style yassa chicken and beignets. A few booths over, Suya Spot (3212 Weston, at Sheppard, 416-242-2600) offers Nigerian spins on skewered beef in peanut sauce and fiery accra fritters.
