Banknote Bounty

Rating: NNNNN

Passing the Banknote (663 King West, 416-947-0404) the other day, I notice a sign in the front window promoting Tuesday-night $5.99 Mussel Madness. Two pounds for three toonies?! Naturally, I’m there like a shot. Located in a former bank, the ‘Note has the atmosphere of an early 80s meat market with a vaguely Victorian ye-olde-pub feel complete with hanging plants and period Fleetwood Mac/Pat Benatar soundtrack.Since staff are friendly, Stella’s on tap and management’s virtually giving the things away, I won’t snark about the set-up. I decide against white wine or alla marinara, and go for the works in a pleasant, light tarragon cream.

Two tightwads could easily split this massive bowlful, but they’d best pass on a huge side order of frozen fries ($3.25).
