Black Hoof
928 Dundas West, at Gore Vale, 416-551-8854. $$$ Since its debut late last fall, Jennifer Agg and Grant van Gameren’s smoky 40-seat late-night charcuterie has been downtown’s hottest table even though the resto du jour doesn’t accept reservations or credit cards. Snagging a two-top just got easier with the unveiling of Black Hoof’s 24-seat all-weather backyard deck. To celebrate, Agg will be pouring strawberry ‘n’ rhubarb-infused mojitos while van Gameren introduces scallop ceviche with crispy pig’s ears, horse tartare and testina – pickled pig face, folks – to his acclaimed carnivorous carte. Bonus: watch for the imminent launch of a satellite all-day café directly across the street.
Cool
Reposado
136 Ossington, at Argyle, 416-532-6474. All exposed brick and stained glass, Toronto’s largest tequila bar takes to its walled-in backyard grotto come summer. Cheese plates ‘n’ tapas, too. $$$
Classic
Julie’s
202 Dovercourt, at Argyle, 416-532-7397. As trees whisper overhead under starry skies and candlelight reflects off wineglasses, this romantic trat is loved for a classic Cuban card that’s perfect for sharing. Reservations essential. $$
Great Food
Cafe 668
885 Dundas W, at Claremont, 416-703-0668. Since its move into far grander digs, this highly regarded pan-Asian vegetarian joint’s card (don’t miss its signature Salad #1) is even more palatable, especially in its shady roadside garden accompanied by organic beer and wine. $$
