two’s too much

Aunties & Uncles at Bathurst and Queen closed Sunday. Running two successful restos was just too much for owners David Ginsberg and Russell Nicholls. A popular brunch spot on Lippincott north of College, the first Aunties will continue to be operate.

“Business on Bathurst wasn’t a problem, but the food was slipping,” Nicholls explains. He and Ginsberg plan a more relaxed approach, but Nicholls doesn’t rule out the introduction of meatloaf-style comfort-food dinners at the original funky joint known for good food at affordable prices.

XXX Diner (197 1/2 King East) has again called it quits. Sad, as the alterna-joint was finally giving their simple veggie brunches the same attention they gave to the beats being spun on the decks.

And True Grits on Markham is no longer open to the public. The two-storey party palace can only be booked for private functions.
