Great Taste

A Taste For Life , the annual charity event that raises funds to provide supportive housing to people living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto, happens next Thursday, March 31. When you make a reservation at any of the participating restaurants – among them Bloom , Toba , Mitzi’s Sister , Pony , Southern Accent and the Queen Mother Café – a portion of the cost of dinner goes to Fife House. Last year, over $38,000 was donated. 416-205-9888, www.atasteforlife.org.

Bye-bye, Brasserie

After a brief period as Toronto’s trendiest trat – that’d be two weeks in November 2001 as far as we can remember – Brasserie Aix on College has finally sputtered to a close. Watch for a steakhouse from the Coco Lezzone crew called 65 Degrees to completely replace the previously Yabu Pushelberg -designed space come May.

Past-tense pasta

Uptown, One of a Kind is obviously luckier than two of a kind, as the popular pasta parlour’s second outlet on Yonge has closed its doors for good. Fortunately, the original inexpensive noodle noshery continues at its long-running Queen West location.
