Still no longer
Less than a year after converting venerable Queen West watering hole the Duke of Connaught into yet another all-day brunch spot slash late-night DJ lounge, Still has been stilled. Although the attractive spot appeared to be doing well and garnered a positive NNN review from NOW's notoriously hard-to-please Sarah Dearing a few months back, it packed up the furniture 'n' fixtures last week and has disappeared into the night.
A block west, Modesto has also called it quits. The oddly designed room has had a number of doomed occupants over the years since it was the much-loved Rooneem's. Perhaps its next tenants should keep this in mind and forget launching another anonymous trat and open a needed neighbourhood bakery.

Two years ago, a month after NOW's rave review, Kensington Market's way groovy mod coffeehouse, Spitfire Sound , shuttered its swingin' doors. Pasta Rica , a cheap Italian take-away, followed in the same location and was dead in the water less than six weeks after our in-print gush. Caribbean cantina Streams of Blessings was even shorter-lived; its manager/chef walked out the day before our positive write-up hit the street. Its successor, Paradise Bay Fish Shack , also tanked shortly after kind words in this paper. To any perspective restaurateur considering a lease on the currently empty boîte, might we suggest a shoe store instead?
