The Gladstone Hotel 's (1214 Queen West, at Dufferin, 416-531-4635) enthusiastically received second cycle of harvest-themed dinners has been extended to Monday (October 15) for one last autumnal blowout.
With seasonal bounty provided by Community Shared Agriculture affiliate farmer Sherry Patterson of Peterborough's Chick-a-Biddy Acres , chef Marc Breton promises a casual communal dinner with dishes inspired by the season's peak produce. His last-minute buffet lineup will be so fresh, he won't be sure what the prix fixe spread will include until the day before the event.
"I'll likely do an empanada using root vegetables plus kale, collards or chard and a coq-au-vin-style free-range chicken braised in wine," imagines Breton. "There'll be an amuse of pear in rice paper wrapped in Niagara prosciutto, several hot and cold plates, and I'll finish with a warm apple galette à la Bistingo served with a Prince Edward County ice cider saboyon."
Advance tickets for this sure-to-sellout event go for $38.50 and are available from the Gladstone. More information: www.gladstonehotel.com/harvest.html.
Breton is already planning next year's Harvest dinners.
"I feel like we're in on the ground floor of a truly grassroots movement."
