Queen Mum heads west

Rating: NNNNN

The buzz about the Rivoli‘s Andre Rosenbaum ‘s retirement is greatly exaggerated. But some of it’s correct. After 26 years on Queen West, the enterprising restaurateur is taking his act on the road. To Victoria, to be precise, where he and long-time partner David Stearn are about to launch the Queen Mother Waterside Café. Located right on the harbour at the foot of Swift Street, the QM2 comes with its own 14-berth marina. But the menu will be very familiar to anyone who’s ever chowed down on Rosenbaum’s legendary Cosmic Burger.

“Victoria has seduced me,” he says. “Oceans, snow-peaked mountains and parks full of lush vegetation. Best of all, there’s no winter!”

That’s not to say the team have forgotten their Toronto roots. They’ve sold their interest in Tempo and Lava , but Stearn and co-partner Jeff Strausburg continue to oversee the operation of the Riv and the Queen Mum.
