Anti-Hero 416-924-6121, 113 Yorkville.
There comes a time in every young man's life when he has to stash his stock of sneaks and rock-out Ts in the weekend-wear drawer of his dresser. (Hipster holdouts excluded, of course.) If he's lucky, that time will come in January, when Yorkville men's shop Anti-Hero offers awesome discounts on its swanky, grown-up but never square duds.
Pleated khakis need not apply for hanger space on racks full of worldly labels from Montreal (Dubuc), the UK (John Richmond) and Italy (Gazzarrini). Co-owners Darcy Pack, Edward Tsilker (both Holt Renfrew alums) and Alessandro Racco (from downtown suit mecca Stagioni) do the grand fashion tour every season to pick out slick workwear and glam playtime duds.
Designers are surprised when three Canadian boys show up to buy their lines for the guys back home, but the tailored, detailed pieces they pick are just what the growing group of fashionable Toronto fellas are craving.
Pack's picks: Howe paisley-printed black cord blazer, $225; Alessandrini dapper grey suit, $647, and pink striped dress shirt, $175; Bikkembergs deconstructed grey, red and pink jumper, $247.
Look for: Duarte Denim's jeans and cotton shirts (Brad Pitt ushered in his Angelina-induced make-under by sporting the casual line) and lots of sherbety shades for spring.
Store hours: Monday to Wednesday and Saturday 11 am-6 pm, Thursday and Friday 11 am-7 pm, Sunday noon-5 pm.
