WHO: Evan Bare (sixoeight.com)

SIGNATURE PRODUCT: Industrial designer Evan Bare might be best known for his Cubert chair and loveseat, boxy upholstered pieces that incorporate wood storage compartments into their arms and bases. He’s moving on to more fluid forms, though, with the introduction of his Annex wing chair.

“Wingback chairs were originally built to keep people warm in drafty homes,” says Bare. “The Annex is meant to create a sense of privacy and comfort.”

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Bare favours simple shapes, functionality and eco-friendly materials. “It has never been more important to acknowledge the concept of sustainability,” he says.

NEW WORKS: In-development products include the Stowfa, a larger couch loaded with storage space, and new versions of his laminated plywood Juxt table.

WHERE TO BUY IT: The Annex chair is $2,300 at MADE (867 Dundas West, 416-607-6384). Juxt tables start at $975 at Bergo (55 Mill, bldg 47A, 416-861-1821).
