Clothes to wear on Canada Day

Next to my desk I have a postcard of a page from the December 23, 1965 edition of the New York Herald Tribune. The headline “Shades to Wear Christmas Day” is above photos of Oliver Goldsmith sunglass frames in egg, bug eye and aviator shapes.

I keep the postcard close by as a lucky charm against fashion writer’s block (when in doubt, pick the next holiday off the calendar and find five somethings someone could wear for the occasion) but also as a reminder that just because anything can be spun into a style story doesn’t mean it should be.

Except that it’s Canada Day and I’d rather be out singing the national anthem and dueling sparklers like the rest of you. So in the spirit of patriotism and buying local, here are five Canadian clothing and accessories finds to wear on Canada Day.

SOOS Rocks vintage brass leaf earrings, $35, soosrocks.com.

House of Spy geometric print halter dress, $110, shophouseofspy.com.

Fluevog Flights chukka boot in grey suede, $209, fluevog.com

Juma Pocket Blazer in Blue, $350, juma.ca.

Fullum & Holt duffel designed by Denis Gagnon, $635, fullumboutique.com.
