COME UP TO MY ROOM at the Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen West), Friday to Sunday (February 6 to 8). $8, includes catalogue. gladstonehotel.com.
THE CONCEPT: Come Up To My Room's hands-off curating style, where organizer's select designers based on previous work and see their hotel room installations for the first time with the rest of us, always produces kooky-to-brilliant results. A new curating quartet, made up of Katherine Morley, Caroline Shaheed, Jeremy Vandermeij and Deborah Wang, selected West Queen West design favourites including illustrator Derrick Hodgson and Gladstone artist-in-residence Bruno Billio.
LOOK FOR: Designer pairings including collaborations between Umbra's Matt Carr and Shared's Joyce Lo. Vancouver's Jeremy Hatch produces massive ceramic pieces, and Studio Junction's Peter Tan and Christine Ho Ping Kong work with their appreciation for modern woodwork and smart small spaces.
SHOP OP: Stop by the Souvenir Shop room (thesouvenirshop.ca) for new picks by Douglas Coupland and other CanCon product makers.
THE PARTY: Following Saturday's reception with music by DJs Nep & Todd, the free LoveDESIGN Party starting at 10 pm features DJs Cozmic Cat and Jaime Sin and an installation of 30 electrical cable chandeliers by South Korea's Kwangho Lee.
