Crywolf

CRYWOLF 91 Ossington, 647-729-7078, crywolfclothing.com

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the wave of big international brands moving into Toronto, but there’s a parallel indie retail boom happening on strips where square footage can’t accommodate names like Saks and Nordstrom, strips like Ossington, where the newest arrival in the neighbourhood is Crywolf.

Owners Stephanie Drabik and Rose Chang launched their line of apparel, accessories and gifts, featuring their own original illustrations, online in 2008. Since then they’ve made the show rounds, selling their unisex T-shirts printed with Canadiana crests or bicycle-riding bears at the One Of A Kind and Junction Flea.

The boutique draws on that experience with a well-merchandised mix that includes their own vinyl toy Bü, hand-stamped brass charms and buys by other local outfits including Crown Flora terrariums and North shed-antler key chains.

Crywolf picks: One of their most popular shirts features a Mr. Fox graphic, $28 Crywolf Cuts Ts are custom made for the shop with mismatched pockets and contrasting panels, $55 pick up a pug lapel pin, $10.

Look for: An Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign to help offset store opening costs runs online until August 31.

Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday noon to 7 pm, Thursday and Friday noon to 8 pm, Sunday noon to 6 pm.
