Serious shoppers save up for the Fashion Design Council of Canada's blowout Designer Clearance Sale, when local labels sell off samples (yes, you can get a one-of-a-kind designer outfit for next to nothing if you happen to fit a sample size), old stock (in all sizes) and even some new overstock. At the Design Exchange (234 Bay) May 29 and 30 from 10 am to 8 pm. Cash only. 416-954-9896.
The Museum for Textiles' annual fundraising More Than Just A Yardage Sale is an amazing place to find vintage patterns and sewing notions, antique shoes, gloves and lace collars and plenty of yardage, too -- everything from Liberty silks through batiks. With fabulous stuff at outrageously low prices, this cash-only sidewalk sale is worth checking out even if you aren't into textiles. May 25 from 11 am to 6 pm and May 26 from 10 am to 1 pm. 55 Centre. 416-599-5321.
Painter Rob Elliott is selling off 50 paintings for $50 a piece, May 25 from 8 pm. Whether it's simply a matter of "fine art reduced to a squalid scene of base animal need" -- as Elliott claims -- or a performance event, this one is worth checking out. Swizzle Gallery, 1162 College. 416-536-4669.
Action Inventory begs us not to tell which cosmetics manufacturers are included in their big Cosmetic And Fragrance Warehouse Sale. But many of the popular name brands, from high-end on down, can be found at 131 Don Park (near Warden and Steeles) May 25 through June 3.
