EKO

EKO, 2611 Yonge, 416-545-0776, ekojewellery.com

A jewellery store shouldn’t be judged by its interior design, but EKO’s new Yonge and Eglinton location looks so slick, its cases could be full of candy necklaces and jawbreaker rings for all we care. A wave of glassed-in display nooks mimic the forced perspective style of owner Mina Yoon’s seven-year-old downtown location (288 Queen West, 416-593-0776) and are full of gorgeous baubles and other precious and costume buys.

The shop’s jewellery line includes Me and Ro (simply styled stackable rings), Alexis Bittar (colourful cuffs and multi-strand necklaces) and Toronto’s Robert Von Ly (oversized, showy brooches). Other made-in-Canada finds like Félix Carole Dicaire from Montreal and Winnipeg’s Hilary Druxman have distinctive looks that appeal to buyers with minimal to maximal tastes.

Tribal-inspired pieces by Trois Designs, La Tribu Rigaux and Metal Pointus incorporate raw stones and heavy, hammered metals.

EKO picks: A Philippe Audibert Swarovski crystal bracelet is an extra-sparkly find, $190 to $1,300 Brazil’s Trois Designs has its own take on the season’s statement necklace trend, $200 New Yorker Robert Lee Morris’s look combines modern and organic influences, $150 to $1,300.

Look for: New designers regularly added to the store’s mix.

Hours: Monday to Wednesday and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am to 7 pm, Sunday noon to 5 pm.
