FACE FURNITURE 464 Parliament, 416-960-3223, facefurnitureoptical.com

Before you even try on a pair of glasses, you can see that the frames have their own personality. In the case of the styles sold at Cabbagetown spot Face Furniture, a whole lot of it.

The sleek boutique specializes in the unusual, eccentric and just plain stylish side of the eyewear spectrum and off-the-radar labels that push the design envelope. There are Woody pieces made from, you guessed it, carved timber in greyish driftwood tones and blonder hues. The surreal Vue dc line has exaggerated cat’s-eye frames and oversized pieces in mother-of-pearl acetate. Other lines to look for include store exclusives Isson Australia and Tart Optical.

For the vintage collector, a cubby is stocked with retro options featuring paint-splatter finishes and encrusted jewels.

Face Furniture picks: A standout pair of Isson sunnies are a contemporary take on a steampunk goggle shape, $409 a vintage rose-coloured LA Eyeworks pair has mismatched green and blue arms, $485 classic Woody frames are $285.

Look for: A collection of Theo frames with a Flintstones look featuring jagged edges and stylized chips.

Hours: Monday to Wednesday and Saturday 10 am to 8 pm, Thursday and Friday noon to 8 pm, Sunday noon to 5 pm.
