Fall menswear finds

I’m one of those type-A fashion people who sketches my outfits pre-Fashion Week, sets up a rolling rack in the living room to survive the film festival and generally plans my wardrobe to the absurd point of making morning outfit selection as brainless and painless as possible.

But that’s not to say that I don’t like surprises. Some of my favourite finds this fall weren’t on the shopping list I wrote up for the season at the beginning of July. And whether I’ve splurged, saved or just dreamt of adding these autumn picks to my wardrobe, they are guaranteed great additions to your own closet.

Whether you buy your Generic Surplus sneakers at Urban Outfitters or search out a pair at indie stores like Sydney’s or the new Shared shop, their utilitarian look and under-$100 price tag are perfect for fall. If you want to spend (and butch it up) a little more, check out the hearty Marlboro work boots at Chasse Gardée.

In the pants department, I’ve been obsessed with Donegal tweed pants ever since seeing this shot in August’s GQ (pictured above). They’re by Band of Outsiders but there’s a sharp John Varvatos pair at Next Door with a buckle detail across their waist band on the back.

My favourite recent discovery at Jonathan + Olivia (aside from the Our Legacy plaid shirts and Rachel Comey tasseled Gellager boots) is the Gemma.H Uomo line of knitwear. Look for jacquard sweaters with a svelte Italian cut that incorporate everything from skulls to snowflakes into their weave.

Don’t hate me because my boyfriend is a menswear designer and I’ve called dibs on the blue plaid duffel coat from his fall collection. It’s the topper style or the moment and I’ve spotted toggled options at Banana Republic and an awesome button-up style on the Philippe Dubuc site.

Club Monaco‘s collection is on point this season especially their value-priced Keegan cords and the Reece oxford shirt which has a Band of Outsiders look at a fraction of the price.[rssbreak]
