Though barely 7 feet wide, Katelyn Joliat‘s Queen and Berkeley boutique, Far Away Eyes, packs in more style than many stores 10 times its size. That’s thanks to the contemporary gothic and industrial look she’s created with rustic fixtures, and a merchandise mix that focuses on accessories, gifts and a well-edited selection of womenswear.
It all started with Joliat’s five-year-old jewellery line, K8. That collection’s bow necklaces and knuckle rings anchor a curio case stocked with other baubles by the likes of Talon, Flotsam and Jetsam and Bing Bang. Turn around and you have your gift pick of Quill & Tine gloves, Modern Alchemy candles and Crown Flora terrariums.
A single clothing rack is hung with Upstate‘s shibori-dyed tops and jeans by New York City’s Courtshop.
Far Away Eyes picks: Skull candles are bestsellers and available in multiple sizes and tones, $15 to $42 choose from the K8 collection of knuckle rings in gold or sterling silver, $40 to $90 Courtshop denim is known for its ass-enhancing perfect pocket placement, $120 to $145.
