Faux pas fundraising

Wear White for Windfall started five years ago as a quiet fundraising effort focused on getting people to pay $4 for the privilege of wearing white to work in the middle of winter. Today, it’s a month-long extravaganza that raises money and awareness for Windfall, Canada’s only new clothing and basics need bank.

There’s a TTC poster campaign starring local celebs like Breakfast Television’s Dina Pugliese, Bustle designer Shawn Hewson and Bold Face Name dropper Shinan Govani. There are limited edition buys benefiting the cause, including Daniel Espinosa‘s sterling silver charm and a shimmer powder from Vasanti Cosmetics.

And there are parties galore including a private ‘do at Amber offshoot Cinq 01, a price fixe dinner at Marben on Friday and tomorrow night’s Frugal Fashion Week launch at Nyood‘s new upstairs bar.

FFW founder Gillian Downes has partnered with Windfall since launching her shopping and fashion show series last summer. Thursday’s WhoWhatWEARWhenWhy event features a catwalk lineup of six Toronto designers including Another Word for Pink, Our Lady, Decadent Designs, Yvette Le Roy, Patricia O’Connor and Toronto Fashion Incubator 2009 New Labels winner Faren.

Frugal Fashion Week’s WhoWhatWEARWhenWhy launch benefiting Windfall, Thursday, January 28, 7 pm at Nyood, 1096 Queen West. Admission $10. Frugalfashionweek.com. [rssbreak]
