Budget-friendly telecom brand Fizz has quietly refreshed its appearance, rolling out new campaigns across some of Toronto’s busiest intersections and transit hubs.
Now, it’s not a full rebrand, but the new look is enough to get Torontonians’ heads to turn.
With the new tagline, “Fizz, that’s phone smart,” it brings attention to some of the carrier’s key features, including data rollover, flexible plans and no long-term contracts — all benefits aimed at people looking to keep their monthly phone costs in check.
The new look can already be spotted in several high-profile locations across the city, including:
- Sankofa Square on the TEC tower
- Bloor Station
- Union Station
- A mural at 17 Pure Spirits Mews in the Distillery District
- Select Bike Share Toronto stations
Now Toronto hit the streets to see whether anyone noticed — and whether it could convince them to rethink their mobile provider.
We asked Torontonians what they thought
We stopped people near some of the installations to find out whether they recognized Fizz, noticed the refreshed look and, more importantly, whether it changed how they viewed the company.
Friends Bo Budyk and Rylie Da Silva say their current phone plans are “pretty expensive.” Da Silva shared that between her and her brother, they dish out about $250 a month. Admittedly, Budyk’s father pays for his bill, but he is sure that it definitely costs a pretty penny.
Both had never heard of Fizz before, but did a double take learning that they are able to receive 50GB of data with a $30 plan.
“That’s what I’m looking for,” Budyk said. “I’m gonna switch to Fizz.”
Da Silva agreed. “I would consider switching to Fizz as well — me and my brother.”
Another local, Lucy Cavanaugh, told Now Toronto that Fizz’s cleaner design feels more modern than many telecom ads and made them stop for a second look.
“I think it’s very easy to understand,” she said. “The interface is kind of simple. There’s not really any room for confusion.”
That’s something graphic design student Ever Abuhammam echoed.
“I definitely say the design is user friendly,” he shared. “A lot of websites are very overwhelming nowadays when you’re trying to get started with a new plan, and this doesn’t feel that way at all.”
Cavanaugh shared that besides a more affordable bill — which she said she pays about $131 for — another mandatory mobile feature is unlimited data.
Again, Abuhammam was also on the same page.
“I’m always out and about, and I’m always calling someone like that’s not in the country,” he said.
Not only does Fizz offer a range of 4G and 5G unlimited plans, but it also features data rollover, where unused data automatically rolls over to the next month at the end of each payment cycle.
For that, both Cavanaugh and Abuhammam said they’d definitely check out the carrier.
And as a student, Abuhammam says rising living costs mean he’s paying closer attention to monthly expenses, especially his phone plan.
“I think it’s important to have an affordable phone plan because I think the economy right now is not great. I think people are struggling,” he shared. “I think students, especially, could just use all the help they can get, and they should have all the help that they can get.”
A new look, but the same service
While the brand might have changed a bit visually, Fizz’s mobile plans remain the same.
The provider continues to offer features including no fixed-term contracts, fast LTE and 5G networks, data gifting, flexible plans that can be adjusted as needs change, no overage or roaming fees, a loyalty rewards program and a $25 referral bonus for eligible new members.
On Toronto’s streets, the refresh seems to be doing what many campaigns hope for: getting people to stop, take notice and, in some cases, start talking about how much they’re paying for their phone plan.
