Forgotten frocks

Sometimes I scare people at the office. When we’re working on a big shoot like the Hot Summer Guide fashion spread that will appear in tomorrow’s issue of NOW, I borrow way more product than we’ll actually use. This isn’t news to anyone who works at a fashion magazine but my co-workers wonder how I’ll squeeze the huge haul of clothing, shoes and accessories we pull for a story into a two page spread.

Styling is all about the survival of the fittest, both in the literal sense of the word (can our model actually squeeze into the samples?) and does it mesh with our theme, in this case, printed summer dresses.

There are always leftovers that usually just get packed up and shipped back to stores and showrooms. This week though, we’ve created an online gallery of our favourite surplus styles. Some are frugal shopper-friendly, others are more of a splurge but as you’ll see from the high/low looks in Thursday’s paper, summer fashion is still all about the mix.
