Curly hair can be a cutting conundrum for novice stylists who flat-iron their way out of taming spiral tendrils. Not for Grateful Head 's Lysa Fina , who has a rep among moptops around town for expertly clipping their locks. Fina cuts curls dry to eliminate post-salon poofing, and the resulting well-defined rings are a formerly frizzy-haired client's dream come true.

As happy as you'll be with your new do, a visit to Grateful Head's corner storefront at the top of Trinity Bellwoods Park also plugs you into the salon's art and music community. Staff musicians practise in the basement jam space, friends open art shows in the salon, and clothing swaps raise money for local charities. Drop-ins waiting for their chops browse a wall stocked with indie discs and flip through rock books instead of the usual fashion rags.
