Just as soon as fashion tilts toward minimalism, we get a hankering for something a little more max. Enter the opulent textile-based jewellery of Carol Greaves. Fabric cuffs stitched together with mismatched swatches of lace and barkcloth are saturated with surreal buttons, sparkly rhinestones and colourful beads.
Greaves mines flea markets and button shops for time-worn findings but assembles the vintage notions with a contemporary result in mind.
“I don’t want to simply rearrange old things,” she says. Her bracelets, available at Distill, Made You Look and through her Etsy boutique, are joyful, celebrating colour, texture and our modern romance with musty materials.
