Lipstick

“The common myths regarding conscientious lipstick are that the range of shades is limited and that they do not wear well. Moisturizing lipsticks like this Hemp Organics rose-petal shade ($22.99) debunk those assumptions without using any petro-derived ingredients that can dry your lips.”

Facial cleanser

“A good cleanser should clean your face and remove makeup. Besides being paraben-free, Soya’s Soy Emulsive Crème Cleanser ($20) is also fragrance-free and designed to be used with or without water. Soy is a star ingredient with anti-inflammatory properties.”

Body lotion

“Consonant Spearmint and Sage Organic Body Lotion ($22) has no sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium laureth sulphate, and no phthalates. The texture of this lotion is divine – not too heavy for warm months yet still emollient enough for dry skin in the colder months.”

Nail polish

“The big three no-nos in nail lacquers are formaldehyde, toluene and DBP (phthalates). The scope of shades in the butter LONDON collection, including this Cheeky Chops banana-yellow hue ($17), is unbelievable. The polishes go on beautifully and really last.”

Nail polish remover

“Acetone is the key ingredient you want to avoid in nail polish removers, and the Powder Room formula ($5) is acetone-free. It works quickly so you don’t need a lot. Instead of cotton pads, use old face clothes or rags to limit the amount of waste.”
