I want… Joe Rico

Toronto thrash metal icons Sacrifice are back after a 16-year absence, and they sound as heavy on their comeback album, The Ones I Condemn, as did in their 80s heyday. You can catch them pummelling the Opera House Saturday (November 21). Here’s guitarist Joe Rico riffing on holiday gifts.

The ones made by my kids when they were younger. Or the ones I bought for myself when I was young – like records and guitar gear.

We fed dinners to a bunch of underprivileged families here in the Detroit area. Something about helping those who can’t help themselves really is rewarding. I consider this more a gift to myself than to anyone else.

I’ve asked for lots of stuff, but in this economy I highly doubt it will happen. I hope I stay healthy for the remainder of the year, and I really want to advance and get my Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, but you can’t ask for that. You have to earn it.
